zoetrope: (SGA - John makes things go boom)
I'd like to do a story where Rodney and John meet one night in a bar when they're in their early twenties, and John is all clean-shaven and smooth-haired and Rodney is slim and even more arrogant, if that's possible, and he struts over to John - who is in civvies for once, on short leave visiting his friends in Toronto - and picks him up, and John is vaguely amused and, even though he's straight (despite the odd slip in the training academy) he kinda goes along with it, and Rodney takes him home and they have spectacular sex and John slips out in the middle of the night.

Two years later, Rodney is in Washington doing something very high-tech and top-secret for the Pentagon, and he walks into a bar late one night, and there is John again - though they don't remember each others' names, if they ever knew them - and Rodney cockily goes over once again, and John pretends that it takes him a moment to recognise Rodney, and he asks what Rodney's been doing and Rodney can't say and Rodney asks what John's been doing and John can't say, so after a moment's awkward silence Rodney excuses himself, and then goes to the bathroom, and John follows him and blows him and then Rodney jerks John off and they both go their separate ways.

Then, another year later, John is in LA, where he is on leave with a couple of buddies, surfing. He stumbles out of the surf, flicking his wet hair away, laughing, and hears a voice exclaim, and there is Rodney again, and Jesus, why the hell do they keep-- and John is kinda withdrawn because his friends are waiting for him and giving them weird looks, but Rodney mentions what hotel he's in, and that night hears almost-silent knocking at the door and when he stumbles over in his boxers to open it, there is John, swaying slightly from drink, hair falling into his squinting eyes, and he pushes Rodney back into the darkness of the room, stumbles and falls flop onto the bed. He falls asleep in the middle of Rodney blowing him, and Rodney is pissed and goes and jerks off in the bathroom and then pushes John to the far side of the bed and passes out himself. When he wakes up in the morning, however, he's slightly less pissed, which might be because John has a slick hand wrapped around him and is licking his neck, and Rodney lets John push him onto his back and straddle him, and when John eventually sinks down onto him he doesn't care why they keep running into each other, he just hopes it never stops--

Then, three years later, Rodney is wrapped in a cheap coat and clutching a bottle of cheap Vodka as he stumbles out of his local shop in Moscow, when he bumps into a bear-- or rather, a guy wearing more fur than a bear. But, oh, it's John wearing one of those ridiculous hats, and Rodney never thought anything would look stupider on that man's head than his hair, but-- and they have an awkward conversation and Rodney isn't sure of the protocol in that situation, but then John looks covertly behind him and says that they should meet up, he's only in town overnight. And so this time John comes to his flea-infested apartment and they fuck on the threadbare rug in front of the only radiator in the flat, keeping most of their clothes on, and afterwards John looks sated and Rodney and he share a cigarette, Rodney coughing most of it back up but John inhaling as cool as anything, reclining on one arm, hair gold-tipped from the electric fire. John stays overnight, and they fuck again in Rodney's single bed, slowly, Rodney lying on top of John, kissing him, John holding the blankets up around Rodney's shoulders to keep him warm.

The next morning, Rodney expects John to have left, but instead the smell of coffee is wafting in from the kitchen, and Rodney stumbles in, hopping to put on his socks, and finds John there slowly making *real* coffee. Rodney is so grateful that he kisses John, relishing the heavy un-brushed taste of his mouth, and then pushes him back into the kitchen chair that has a weak leg, making him worry for a moment that John's weight might finally break it-- but it's fine, and Rodney unbuttons John's heavy blue trousers and blows him and John wants to return the favour but Rodney's late for work and they leave at the same time and walk in opposite directions. Rodney can't help but feel like they will never see each other again, and he suspects that this feeling has been building each time they meet because each time they meet he wants to leave him less, even though he knows less than nothing about him--

And, life as usual goes back to the way it was, with only the occasional thought to John.

And then he steps off a plane at the bottom of the world, and there is his pilot. And it seems that the world was just having a joke on him this whole time, building something up so slowly, painfully, until it came to the day when he had to work with this guy every day, and they both had to be other people.

I just got spam that said this:

I never think of the future. It comes soon enough.

I believe in dragons, good men, and other fantasy creatures.

I love this, and feel like perhaps even Spam can sometimes be beautiful.
