I said I didn't have a preference, but that doesn't quite express the degree to which I think both are plausible, hot, and interesting. And I actually quite like fics that take a stance on one of them being a bottom more than the other, and that being okay and good and not necessarily meaning that the other partner isn't "opening up" enough or whatever. (yikes).
I don't remember who wrote it, but there was a fic where the author offhandedly said that Rodney fucked John all the time, not because they'd discussed it or had issues or even necessarily had preferences, but just because it's what they do most of the time, because they had habits like couples do. I loved that.
I chose "Switching off", but what I really like is when it's part of the story. (Like Rodney always tops and thinks John wouldn't want that and John not knowing how to ask, and then of course Rodney finding out and doing something about it. That works the other way round too :-)
