Jan. 26th, 2005 08:56 pmMan, it's freezing. Although do not let it be said that
serialkarma isn't doing an excellent job of heating me up. Tut tut.
Talking of which, work has been fun recently. Just one of the great things about working in an all-female environment for a feminist cause is the women that I get to work with. Today my boss and I spent a large amount of time planning an office party at a local lesbian bar. We tried to gentle one of our less, well, gay colleagues into it by saying it would be a "girly night" at a place with no men. She said "Do bars actually *do* women-only nights?!"
So that's going to happen next week. I expect shenanigans, although I can't spell it.
Also, I'm slowly corrupting one of my young and impressionable colleagues into slash. She's very sweet and innocent and, from the moment I met her, I could tell she was a fangirl in the making. Thus one day I happened to say, "You like LotR, don't you?" just knowing I'd get the squealing "Oh, yes!" she gave in response.
There was a short pause and then I gave in.
"Go on then," I said. "Which one do you like?" Her reply was, I have to say, possibly the dorkiest thing I've ever heard.
"Aragorn, son of Arathorn!" she swooned.
I left it then, feeling that I really shouldn't corrupt her that much - my boss made me feel guilty by telling me how traumatic she found it reading Nancy Friday books when she was younger, with all the bestiality therein.
Then today, I couldn't hold it in any longer. My boss and I were talking about slash and I started to explain to the girl what it is. "So," she said, looking innocently puzzled. "You read stories about them? Doing... naughty things?" (No, I'm really not paraphrasing.)
"Yes," I replied, choosing my words carefully. "So, for instance, you can read a story about Billy and Dom," she nodded vaguely, uninterested. "Or," I said slowly, "Viggo and Orlando..."
"Ooohhhhh," she moaned. Ecstatically.
I sent her home with a few recs. *Adjusts pimp hat*
And now, because of the cold, I am going to get into bed very very early. Goodnight.

Date: 2005-01-26 01:27 pm (UTC)I wonder, do you think we (in a general sense) can pick peole's LotR pairings just by knowing them? That is to say, what makes a Billy/Dom girl as opposed to a Vig/Orli or Orli/Dom?
I think of the oddest things sometimes. :)
