Yes, that's right, I'm back. They thought they could defeat me with The Month of HELL! And yet, they were wrong. For here I am, and stronger than before.
For those of you who don't know, I coordinate a film festival, and last week was The Big Week. And, yes, it was absolute HELL. H-E-L-L Hell. No hyperbole, it was the most stressful, panic-indusing, horrific and depressing week of my life, and those leading up to it were fucking awful too.
But I stuck it out, despite almost quitting on several occassions, and saw it through, and I feel... accomplished, I guess.
Things I have learnt:
* If you want something done right, do it yourself.
* Or terrify everyone into doing it properly because they Fear Your Wrath.
* Scream from the diaphram to create proper impact.
* If you miss two weeks worth of LJ you will *never* catch up.
* Film stars really do have orgies. In fact, they even have low-ceilinged private rooms in exclusive clubs that are covered (literally) in velvet and filled with nothing but beds.
* People will always screw you over if they can. Be as stubborn, tenacious and bitchy as possible if you want to get your own way. Meet fire with fire.
* Even in the midst of hell, you can meet amazing people.
* No matter how insanely busy you are, whoever you're talking to will think that *they* are the most important thing you should be dealing with.
* If you work solidly for five days, without time to eat and barely time to drink *you will make yourself seriously ill*.
* People will always bully you if you let them.
* Taking the time to thank people is more important than almost anything else. *Glares at boss*
And now I need to look for work. I'm moving on as of next week, and don't know what the fuck to do. Though I'm seriously thinking of moving to Canada. I know a couple of people out there now (one in TV, one in film) and may just take the big leap.
How about a poll? Those tend to be entertaining, huh?

Date: 2005-03-18 07:05 am (UTC)Welcome back and congrats on surviving! You probably *really* need a 'Fear my wrath' icon now after all that
And you're allowed to run off to Canada, maybe, but NOT before I've made it to London :)

Date: 2005-03-19 05:09 am (UTC)It had multiple VIP rooms, and when we were shown where we could change, we were taken through the club, into a succession of smaller rooms (a bit like Alice In Wonderland!) until, eventually, we went through a door into an extremely low-celinged room, with padded walls and ceiling, covered in velvet, with nothing in it except 6 beds - one of which was big enough for at least four people. No sheets, all just made of velvet, with big velvet pillows.
We're pretty sure they just use that room for napping and such.
