Okay, I realize you have lots more free time on your hands lately, and this is probably where all this really cool art is coming from, so can we, like, figure out a way to compensate you for this stuff, so you can do it all the time?
Those are excellent (although you've misspelled 'Emperor'). I love the canon bits - Rodney from Runner as Hanged Man, eee! Although Steve the Wraith as Fool, I don't know.
Are you planning to do the rest of the Major Arcana?
Actually, I wasn't planning on any of it *g*. I was flicking through images here and saw the picture of Rodney upside down and that gave me the idea.
I made that on a whim and showed it to 2am_optimism who demanded I make more. These I did in about an hour, using only high res images from that site, so unfortunately was rather at the mercy of the images they had available.
I'd like to do the rest - puddlejumper as chariot, etc., it will just take a little more effort to gather the relevant images together.
Any suggestions for the fool greatly appreciated! :)
Anyway, the Fool is more of a blithe soul sort of character, an innocent, which is why I think Steve is a bad choice. (Although I'd love to see Wraith in the series!) Maybe Ford. Or Helmet-boy from Condemned (damn, I have forgotten his name...Elton, or something like that).
While I'm thinking about it, the Tower signifies ruin - so the towers of Atlantis under attack by the Wraith would be a little more apropos. (That is, if you're going to try to parallel the actual Tarot meanings, as well as the images. For example, Ronon for Strength is *perfect*.)
I'm totally not a tarot expert. But I bet there's stuff on the web. Also, I bet you don't really want to spend a lot of time on it. :-)
I won't spoil for if you haven't seen the episode yet, but the tower from The Tower, s2, would be *perfect* for that card, both in imagery *and* Tarot significance. Although Atlantis is really just as appropriate, since she has risen and fallen and fought so many times.
I think Kavanagh would make a good Fool, because he does redeem himself, and the whole point of that card is that it's the switch of the Magician (which has got to be Zelenka..!)
I had an idea for SGA Tarot just the other day and I spent about an hour goin' through my Major Arcana cards trying to figure out who would be which card. Got a few of the same ones, too. Liz as th' Empress, Ronon for Strength. I THINK I had John for Emperor, but I can't remember. I know I had Kavanagh for the Fool and Atlantis for the World, though. *smacks head* Gods, I'm an idiot. I had Kolya as Death when OBVIOUSLY that's the Wraith. Jeez...*shakes head* Thats it. I need to hand over my SGA fan member's card. Oi.
*LOL* Good and amusing venture, in any case. Any chance of doing the other Major Arcana?
Hee. This wasn't particularly thought out at all, and some I'm not *that* happy with, but as it was more for 2am_optimism's entertainment I just stuck them up there *g*
Glad you like them, I may get around to making more soon!
These look fantastic! I'm just amazed by your remark in someone else's comment that it only took you an hour? May I know how you got that almost vector-ish look?
Once you have the first one done, the rest are relatively quick.
I made the basic card shape in flat colours, then brightened the centre using the dodge tool to give it some depth. The aged effect comes from amazing brushes you can download at www.misprintedtype.com, so that was an easy effect. (To fine-tune the look I duplicated those brush layers, usually setting one to multiply, one to overlay, to give it added depth).
The images themselves took slightly more time. I used a couple of filters on them. (These are all for Photoshop 7.0, by the way.)
Basically, I took the original image, shrank it slightly so it wasn't really huge, played with the levels for contrast, then applied a poster edges filter. Once that was done, I erased all the areas I didn't want by hand (this took the most time) and then when I had that basic shape, I duplicated the layer and applied a cut-out effect filter. I then dragged that to the bottom and set the poster-layer to about 50% opacity. One some, I played with the opacity more, erasing some areas of the picture more/less than others for the effect. This can be seen most clearly on the Hanged Man - the leaves are very "cut-out" where I have erased it more, but Rodney's face is quite posterised to give it a little more definition.
Once you've done that, shrink it more and place it where you want it on your card, setting it to "multiply" and taking down the saturation a bit. Then I added the text.
And that's about it! Have a play - quite easy. Hope this is helpful!
These are amazing! The caps are wonderfully chosen, and the cards are just beautiful. I expecially love the Emperor and the Hanged Man. (Here via looking4tarzan's lj.)
Awesome! Wow you should do an *entire set*, only maybe with guns instead of the suit of swords, and Stargates for pentacles. Yes. I'd buy a tarot set like that! Also, beautiful artwork, did you paint them from scratch or are they modified from photos? Either way, gorgeous.

But thanks, I'm glad you like :-)
